Sometimes, the road to peace and self-improvement isn’t as straightforward as we hope. We can distance ourselves from our past mistakes, only to find that they follow us. It’s a reminder that true change comes from within. Below is a poem I wrote that captures this feeling:
You flew miles and miles away.
You flew from past mistakes,
Thinking that the distance
Would shield you from the pain.
This was to be a fresh new start,
A clean slate and no mess-ups.
But the fucked-up you
Laughed in your face.
Was still in there,
And it did what it knew best:
To muddle your life once again,
To show there’s no running.
It’s either you will do the work
To gain the peace you’re craving,
Or you’ll fuck up many times
Until the wake-up calling.
